The purpose of this clinical trial results database is to increase transparency of Novartis clinical trials by making objective, scientific information about those trials publicly available in a standard, summarized format. Novartis clinical trials are clinical trials which are sponsored by Novartis Pharma AG or any of its affiliates, as further specified under "Scope of Clinical Trial Results Database" below.

The nature and purpose of this clinical trial results database is strictly non-promotional.

This clinical trial results database has been established in accordance with the Joint Position on the Disclosure of Clinical Trial Information via Clinical Trial Registries and Databases, as endorsed by the following industry groups: European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), the Japanese Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).

Scope of Clinical Trial Results Database

This clinical trial results database contains information about clinical trials sponsored by Novartis Pharma AG or any of its affiliates. Typically included are Novartis-sponsored Phase IIB through IV trials (global and local), except exploratory, bioequivalence, and post-approval surveillance trials. Investigator-initiated clinical trials (which are, by definition, not sponsored by Novartis) are also excluded from this clinical trial results database.

The Novartis clinical trial results database contains information on trials that were completed after October 1, 2002. Information disclosed in the database for each trial includes details on the trial design, publication status, specific trial efficacy and safety endpoints, as well as adverse events reported. This information will be posted to the database within one year of trial end.

Although Novartis will endeavor in good faith to include in this clinical trial results database all clinical trials within the scope specified above, some trials may not appear in the database if there are legitimate reasons to exclude them, for example where an agreement with a third party prevents Novartis from disclosing information about the trial. However, Novartis will not be exercising any discretion to exclude trials from the clinical trial results database on the basis of the results of the trial. In any event, Novartis and its affiliates will comply with their pharmacovigilance reporting obligations with respect to all clinical trials, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Postings of information in the database may be delayed for various reasons, for example to allow filing of patent applications, to secure any third party approvals required to comply with Novartis' contractual obligations, to comply with requirements of medical journals, or to comply with regulations governing the disclosure of information which is material to investors.
